DESPERTAR

“Observar e Absorver
-muitos olham, poucos ousam tentar ver;
-muitos escutam, poucos querem compreender;
-muitos falam, poucos têm o que dizer;
-muitos observam, poucos têm condições de absorver.”

Eduardo Marinho – Awakening – HD Brasil / Awakening

To wake up
“I can only show you the way,
But it is you who DECIDE if you go for it. ”
Eduardo Marinho.

Born into a middle-class family, Eduardo Marinho had a comfortable and affluent life. He passed a Bank of Brazil contest, then entered military school, and finally passed law school – but he was deeply distressed. It was then that he left everything to seek a meaning for life. He came to live on the street and sleep on a cardboard bed, but found happiness in simplicity.
Eduardo’s questioning began as early as his childhood, when he went with his mother to a shantytown where she paid a promise to distribute food to the needy. Little Edward was shocked by the misery he discovered that day and began to wonder why some people should live like this. His anxiety only increased with each step of the journey that followed: what is the meaning of that work at Banco do Brasil? Why should he suppress popular demonstrations when he was in the army? How did the militants of the student movement not know the poor of whom they spoke so much?
Full of doubts, Eduardo left everything and went to Brazil without money and disinherited by the family. On the way he found answers to many of his doubts and acquired a very particular way of seeing the world and seeking a fairer life. A way based more on emotion than on reason.
He usually exhibits his work on weekends in Largo dos Guimarães in the Santa Teresa district of Rio de Janeiro, and since 2010 he has been invited from time to time to give lectures. Through the internet, he exposes his experiences, works and ideas in the blog “Observe and Absorb”.
